Ticket Reward Jar
I really wanted to share this life saving technique with you. The Ticket Reward Jar has been the easiest and most inexpensive training tool I’ve used to get my kids to listen and behave. I’m not even sure how I discovered it. Maybe from another mom, internet, book, my energy crying out for help. However it came into my life, it is now one of the most important things in my life. I really mean it!!!
It all started when my 2 boys, now 7 and 5 1/2, were unfortunately trained to get up every single night between 12-3am, and get into our bed. My husband and I were so exhausted that we let them stay in our bed. The thought of getting up, and taking them back to there beds several times a night, and night after night was daunting to us. We were in a constant state of exhaustion. We would even get up and go sleep in their beds when they came into ours. Don’t get me wrong, we love snuggling our little ones. It was the part about getting kicked in the head that wasn’t so much fun. Ugh! Ouch!
I had friends tell me how they sleep trained their kids. I even had 2 moms feel so bad, that they offered to come over and sleep train my children. It was very thoughtful of them, and as much as I wanted to take them up on it; I was so embarrassed.
Since I started using this tool about 1 1/2 years ago, it has worked. They’re sleep trained now, and I can get them to listen and do things when I ask.
We gave the tickets a monetary value, and they save up their tickets to buy things they want. They can even use them to go play miniature golf, movies, the arcade, or get an ice cream.I would suggest a smaller value for the tickets because they add up very quickly. We started with a dollar, and tried to decrease the value. Not the best idea, because they get it now.
One of my favorite things about the tickets is they’ve used it as a learning tool, without even knowing they’re doing it. They count the tickets all the time. They ask how much will they need to buy something. So they’re always doing the math!!! Yay!
I happened to have these mason jars at the time when I decided to start the reward system, otherwise I probably would’ve bought plastic. The dollar stores have jars glass and plastic that work perfectly.
Get some labels, stickers, glitter glue, or other crafty decorations. Let them design their own jar. I’ve suggested The Ticket Reward Jar to some friends, and to decorate it. One friend has been having great success with it, and her daughter is so happy. Actually every morning when I see her at school, she tells me how many tickets she has. Super cute!
I went to Amazon and purchased these tickets. They have a great variety of colors, and some with happy faces. Whatever will excite your little one.
This is is! Get yourself ready for that perfect angel. They do not want to lose those tickets. Sometimes I have to take tickets away, but straighten up really quickly and want to earn them back. Good luck, and let me know how it goes.
