Tropical Green Smoothie, just the sounds of it takes me on a vacation. I must be yearning for a Hawaiian vacation with 2 Hawaiian recipes back to back. The other is our delicious Hawaiian Trifle with Edible Flowers.
This smoothie is so refreshing and a great summer treat or snack. We almost added Greek yogurt, but decided it would taste lighter and more fresh for a summer smoothie. Then we added the hemp seeds for protein, as we usually include a variety of different seeds in our other smoothies. Hemp seeds can add extra healthy benefits to the smoothies which makes me a happy mommy.
Also, I want the kids to learn more about the ingredient options available, and their health benefits.
The ingredients we included:
- frozen pineapple, strawberries, and bananas
- shredded coconut
- hemp seeds (see health benefits)
- romaine lettuce
- coconut water

Some people are surprised that we used romaine lettuce in this smoothie. I think we’re so use to using spinach and kale, that when you see lettuce it may seem odd. This turned out to be a great choice, with such a light flavor. Actually, this is the smoothie that got my youngest son requesting salad in the smoothies. I’m happy we went with the romaine , and let the tropical fruits be the star of the show.
If you need to get your kids to eat more greens, then I would recommend adding them to smoothies. I have had great luck with this, and it has definitely paid off. My kids are fantastic eaters, and Brody will give anything a try.
I love this picture! All the ingredients looks so beautiful, and delicious. The best part, is no added sweeteners. The fruit is all you will need for a natural sweetness. Also, use hulled hemp seeds for the smoothies, because they’re already softened and become well blended in the smoothie.

You can always modify this recipe if you want to increase the protein, just add plain or vanilla yogurt. Add a few walnuts too. The skies the limit! Enjoy, 🙂
IS TROPICAL GREEN SMOOTHIE HEALTHY?
