Star Spangled Strawberries

Ingredients

INGREDIENTS

  • Strawberries (washed and dried)
  • White chocolate chips
  • Blue sugar (Store bought, or you can make your own)
  • Red , white, and blue sprinkles
  • Candy stars

INGREDIENTS FOR BLUE SUGAR

  • 1/2 cup Baker's sugar ultra fine
  • Blue food coloring (Using just the plain blue will give the sugar a dull blue)
  • Neon blue food coloring (Using just the neon blue will create a turquoise/bright blue)
  • (I combined both blues to get a deeper, yet bright blue.)

SUPPLIES FOR STAR SKEWER STICKS

  • 1 package skewer sticks
  • 1 package stars
  • glue (to glue stars to skewer stick)
  • glitter sticks (red, white, & blue)

Instructions

INSTRUCTIONS FOR STAR SKEWER STICKS

  • Cut the skewer sticks 2 1/2'' keeping the pointed side (garden sheers cuts these very easily)
  • Glue the matte side of star to the skewer stick, (buy the stars colored or plain, and paint them with paint or markers)
  • Let dry, then turn it over so the front of the star is facing up.
  • Add the glitter glue to the star to give it a sparkle.
  • Set aside, and let dry. This could take awhile, so best to let them dry overnight.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR BLUE SUGAR

  • Add the sugar to zip lock bag
  • Add several drops of the food coloring at a time.
  • Press the air out, and seal the baggie.
  • Begin mixing the color into the sugar until it's well mixed and you don't see any lumps, or specs of blue.
  • The color will be a bit darker when wet. Add more of the blue until desired color.
  • Spread evenly out onto plate, and set aside to dry.
  • Pour into a small bowl for dipping.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CHOCOLATE DIPPED STRAWBERRIES

  • Start with CLEAN, DRY strawberries. (chocolate won't stick if the strawberry is wet)
  • Insert star skewer toothpicks into the top/middle of the strawberries
  • Put 1/2 cup white chocolate chips in a glass microwave safe bowl. Heat in microwave for 30 second intervals, stirring in between until well melted. If chips get a little dry, add shortening until it's smooth.
  • Pour blue sugar in a bowl, and sprinkles into another bowl.
  • Dip the strawberry 2/3 into the melted chocolate, letting any excess drip off.
  • Set the strawberry into the sugar, and roll gently 1/3 around the bottom of the strawberry.
  • Add sprinkles to the white of the strawberry, or the candy stars. These will not stick to the blue.
  • Set on a plate or baking sheet, lined with wax paper.

Notes

Once you're all set up. These are very quick to make, and dry.
