Morning Blueberry Syrup will put a smile on anyone’s face.
This recipe has quickly become one of my favorite things to make. It’s easy, quick, delicious, and the kids go crazy for it. Morning Blueberry Syrup recipe is so easy to make that Brody has become such a pro at it. Although, I still have to supervise him when he’s at the stove. The day becomes a little sweeter when the house smells of blueberries in the morning.
We originally created this syrup when we had a lot of extra blueberries. Instead of just adding them over the top of the pancakes, we created the Morning Blueberry Syrup. Brody said, can we add the blueberries to the syrup? Me, “Of course we can! Let’s do it!” And here it is, another fun recipe was born.
It’s always interesting to see what the kids come up with. Some things work, and some definitely do not. Brody asked me a very valid question, but this was not an easy answer. Interestingly, I have had this same question before. Why add the lemon juice to the syrup , or sauce? Well there’s no easy answer for this if you get into the science behind it. I started to do a little more research on this subject, and I found a great site for detailed information. Why do I have to add lemon……
This makes perfect sense if you’re a science major. Just kidding, it’s actually a very good read.
I’m always looking for the original in recipes. There’s so many talented cooks/chefs out there, and just about everything has been done. We Brody and I talked about this, we knew we were making it with syrup not sugar. Honestly, I love the way it tastes with a hint of maple flavor. If feels like it was meant for breakfast.
It’s so easy to prepare this recipe. It really is just the time it takes to simmer, and release all those delicious flavors from the blueberries. Not to mention all the amazing health benefits.
You can make this recipe thick, or thin and is just preference. Also, if you would rather have a smooth syrup, just add it to your blender and blend until all blueberries dissolved.

Morning Blueberry Syrup
- 2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 1-2 tablespoons cornstarch & water this depends on your desired thickness
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the blueberries, water, and lemon juice.
- Stir, and bring to a boil. Turn down the heat, and let simmer for 10 minutes.
- Add the syrup to the saucepan, and let simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
- In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with water using equal parts cornstarch=water.
- Slowing stir the cornstarch mixture into the blueberry sauce for about 5 more minutes. Stir over heat for your desired consistency. It will thicken very quickly.
- Remove from heat, and it's ready to go!
- If your sauce becomes too thick, no worries, just add a some water a little at a time until you reach the desired thickness.
- If you want a smooth syrup, pour directly into the blender and blend until smooth and all blueberries are gone.
