My boys are usually starving after school and this is one of the quickest after school snack ideas that tides them over until dinner. There are days when I don’t have the time to get creative, or make anything that takes more than a minute or two.
Smoothies and smoothie bowls are one of my go to snacks, but, as quick as they are to make, they still take a few too many minutes sometimes. Plus, there’s the blender to wash up after….
This apple snack recipe literally takes no more than a couple of minutes to make and simply requires you to open some jars and slice up some apples.
There are also the nutritional benefits. Almond butter provides plenty of health benefits to kids, so if allergies aren’t an issue I would consider making the swap from peanut butter.

Does Almond Butter Need To Be Refrigerated?
This will depend on the brand you buy. If it’s organic with no preservatives or additives then you will need to keep it in the refrigerator after being opened.
Once almond butter is opened it is susceptible to rancidity and spoilage. The opened jar will only have a shelf life of about 2-3 months. We always put our opened jars in the refrigerator which will double their lifespan.
Another benefit to storing almond butter in the fridge is to keep the oil from separating. Simply stir well, twist the lid on firmly, and store in the refrigerator.
If it’s unopened, almond butter should have a shelf life of about 2 years.

Honey is optional, this apple almond butter snack can be enjoyed without it. But if you do choose to drizzle honey too, then I would definitely go with green apples.
